Guide Talks Project

In 2020, faced with the sudden prospect of reduced operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Interpretation staff worked to create a brand-new interpretation experience: Guide Talks. In these short informational videos, each interpreter shares an artifact, story, or experience that is particularly meaningful, and invites you to learn more about the unique story of Roosevelt Campobello International Park, and Campobello Island.

Episode #1: “Eleanor’s Writing Desk”. The first in our "Guide Talks" series! Jocelyn Calder tells us about this unique writing desk in Roosevelt Cottage.

Episode #2: “FDR’s Lucky Campaign Hat:. Anna Fletcher reveals her favourite artifact in our collections: FDR's felt fedora.

Episode #3: “Lost in the Fog”. Even the hardiest island resident can sometimes get lost in the thick Fundy fog!

Episode #4: “Sunrise and Sunset at Campobello”. Jade Robbins shares the world-famous (and Oscar-nominated!) beautiful sunsets on Campobello Island.

Episode #5: “Eleanor’s Last Visit”. Allison Smart takes us to Eleanor's favourite picnic spot on Campobello Island to talk about her final visit to Campobello.

Episode #6: “The Highs and Lows of Tides”. The beach at Con Robinson's Point at Roosevelt Campobello International Park is the perfect place to explore the world's highest tides with Chelsea Marcoux!

Episode #7: “Tee Time on Campobello”. Golf has always been a popular pastime on Campobello Island, from the first course designed by FDR himself to today’s beautiful course at Herring Cove. Gerard Bourque tells us more!

Episode #8: “It’s A Dog’s Life”. Laurel imagines a day in the life of Chief, the Roosevelts' family dog!

Episode #9: “Hubbard Cottage”. With eight fireplaces, sweeping verandahs, and perhaps the world's most lovely picture window, Dee takes us inside Hubbard Cottage - just another seaside cottage off the coast of Maine and New Brunswick!

Episode #10: “Greeting the Visitors”. The Visitor Centre staff are a wealth of knowledge about the Park, the island, and the area; Will stops in to talk to Darlene, Betty-Jo, and Roger about their favourite things about visitors over the years.

Episode #11: “Talking Tea”. Our "Eleanor's Tea" program is served up to over 8,000 visitors per year, and it is one of the highlights of the experiences we have to offer at Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Will checks in with Anna, Jade, and Taunya about their experiences delivering this fantastic program.
